Crime stats for Sept 10-16

Jonathan Hobday’s weekly crime report:

  • The upward trend in crime continued this week (September 10-16), especially with regard to the theft of cars. There were no less than 14 reported incidents in the Claremont Cluster area (Mowbray, Rondebosch and Claremont). The good news is that only one of these incidents was in the Mowbray precinct – on Wednesday night at 9 Langton Road, an older model Toyota Corolla. However, there were six such incidents in the Rondebosch precinct and seven in the Claremont precinct, mostly older-medal cars taken off the streets.
  • Also good news is that there were no house robberies reported in the Claremont cluster.
  • However, Mowbray had five reported house-breakings and two business burglariesduring the week as follows:
    • On Wednesday morning at Thandokhulu School;
    • On Wednesday night in Balfour Road;
    • On Thursday during the day at a flat at 19 Alma Road;
    • On Friday during the day at 29 Ridge Road;
    • On Friday night at a dress shop at Rondebosch Village, Klipfontein Road;
    • On Saturday afternoon at Malleson Road (where police made three arrests!);
    • On Saturday night at 23 Strubens Road.
  • There was also a spate of seven reported thefts from cars – on Monday during the day at the Red Cross Hospital; on Tuesday morning in Fifth Road, Park Estate; on Wednesday in Milner Road; on Wednesday in Bollihope Road; on Wednesday during the day in Kowie Road; on Friday evening in Kowie Road; and on Saturday in Raapenberg Road.
