Crime report, August 27 – September 2

From Jonathan Hobday:

Sadly, we had our first car-jacking in some time – a man was held and robbed of R19 000 in cash and his car by a gang of four men at mid-morning on Friday in the car-park at the St Giles Association in Klipfontein Road. The car was later found in Loch Road in nearby Park Estate.

There have also been five house-breakings during the last week: On Wednesday morning at 25 Ayres Road and at 3 Lochview in Heath Road; on Thursday morning at 16 Langton Road; on Thursday night at Shannon Court in Lower York Road; and on Saturday night at Horngate in lower York Road.

Three vehicles were stolen during the week, all in broad daylight, all older-model cars and all in the Mowbray CBD area – on Wednesday from Highfield Road, on Thursday from Thistle Road and on Friday from Wolmunster Road. There was also an attempt on Monday night to steal a a Jeep from Bloemendal Road.
There were two reported thefts from cars – one in Liesbeek Parkway on Thursday afternoon and the other in Banksia Road on Friday afternoon.

Mowbray police will be conducting two anti-crime campaigns in the precinct during the next few days:
1. Flyers will be sent to all flat-dwellers in secure complexes warning them not to open gates willy-nilly unless they are sure who is ringing the bell; and
2. Domestic assistants in the area will also be canvassed on a suburb-by-suburb basis to give advice on various crime scams and to give general anti-crime tips.
