Colleen Thomas writes:
The next concert of the Pro Cantu Youth Choir is on Thursday 23 June at the Center for the Book in Victoria Street, Cape Town. It was built in ca 1905 as the assembly hall for UCT before the university grew too large and moved to its current campus. The Jameson Hall was built according to the same design, just larger. The reason I’m going on about this is because the acoustics in the Center for the Book are among the very best South Africa has to offer for a performing choir!
The concert starts at 7:30pm and joining us in the performance will be the Miami Children’s Chorus and the St Marks School of Texas Boychoir. Pro Cantu will present the following songs:
- Duo Seraphim (Francisco Guerrero)
- Magnificat (Arvo Part)
- The Lord’s Prayer (Jeremy Lubbock)
- hope faith life love (Eric Whitacre)
- Suite de Lorca (Einojuhani Raautavaara)
- Bawo Thixo Somandla
- Laduma (the so-called “rain song”)
- Precious Lord (arr Roy Ringwald)
Tickets are R80 (R50 pensioners and students) and can be pre-booked with Rhoda Patterson (firstname.lastname@example.org) / 083 573 5811
BOOKING IS ESSENTIAL! There are only 160 seats available for the general public.
